Privacy

Visit Cox is an independent, non-commercial travel guide to Cox's Bazar. It is a static website hosted on GitHub Pages. This page explains, in plain words, what the site does with data.

Who runs this site

The site is maintained by the owner of the GitHub repository iamanikbarua/Visit-Cox. It is not a government or tourism-board site. For questions or requests, open an issue at github.com/iamanikbarua/Visit-Cox/issues. Issues are public, so do not post personal details there.

Analytics, only if you accept

If you tap "Accept analytics" in the banner, the site loads Google Analytics. It records page views and basic technical details (such as device type, browser, approximate location from your IP address, and the page that sent you here) so we can see which pages are useful. If you tap "Decline" or ignore the banner, Google Analytics is not loaded and sets no cookies.

With your consent, Google Analytics sets these cookies (per Google's documentation):

  • _ga: tells visits from the same browser apart. Lasts up to 2 years.
  • _ga_* (for example _ga_KNP95TZB0K): keeps track of the current session. Lasts up to 2 years.

Google processes this data under its own terms; see Google's privacy policy.

What stays in your browser

The site saves your language, currency and analytics choice in your browser's local storage. Trip planner inputs (dates, group size, budget choices) are worked out in your browser and are not sent to us; if you export a trip pass as an image or PDF, that file is saved on your device only.

Like most websites, pages load fonts from Google Fonts and scripts from public CDNs (Tailwind CSS, cdnjs). Those services see your IP address when your browser fetches the files. GitHub, which hosts the site, may keep server logs.

WhatsApp

If a WhatsApp button is shown and you tap it, WhatsApp opens with a pre-filled message. Whatever you send then goes to WhatsApp (Meta) and the person you message, under their terms. Nothing is sent unless you tap and send.

What we do not do

There are no accounts, no logins and no payments on this site. We do not sell or rent data to anyone.

Change your choice

Use the "Cookie settings" link at the bottom of any page to show the banner again and pick differently. You can also clear this site's data (cookies and local storage) in your browser settings, which removes the saved choice and any analytics cookies.

Bangladesh law

This site is aimed at visitors to Bangladesh. Bangladesh's rules on cyber security and personal data have changed in recent years (for example, the Digital Security Act 2018 was replaced by the Cyber Security Act 2023, and a personal data protection law has been drafted and revised). We aim to collect as little as possible and only with consent. This page is not a legal opinion or a certificate of compliance with any law.
